The Importance of Hope

What is hope? The definition of hope is “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. To be hopeful is to see the future positively; to see opportunities in challenges (instead of challenges in opportunities)”.  When we have hope. We can see the positive in any situation, even the negative ones.

Hope is NOT…
Hope can sometimes be given a bad rap. Sometimes, people with hope are seen as naive or foolish, but that is simply not the case. Hopeful people aren’t just sitting around expecting all good things to come to them. They know hard work and sacrifice are necessary, but they use hope to get through the bad times.

Why is hope important?
We all have the ability to hope, but some of us have a hard time seeing it. If you were to fall, what is the first thing you do? Do you think, “I need to get up”? If you do, this is your inner voice of hope. It’s telling you to “Get up. Brush yourself off and keep going!”  Hope allows you to believe in yourself. It allows you to make mistakes, knowing you’ll learn from them and move on.

Do you set your alarm clock at night to wake you in the morning? You have hope! You have hope you will live to see another day. Simply put, we all need hope. Life is hard. Hope is there to help us push through to the other side. It knows there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Hope allows us to see that any setback is temporary. Hope can spiritually prepare us for the good and the bad in life. It strengthens our whole being. Hope gives us a reason to live. It gives us a reason to do something – anything! It is with us within any goal we create; any decision we make to keep going. Hope doesn’t care what color, gender, or race you are. It doesn’t care if you are rich or poor. It is something we all possess, in good times and in bad.

More importantly, if you look closely, you will see that hope is the thread perfectly weaved within our desires. It binds each moment we find ourselves emotionally vested in; hope to learn and achieve success, hope to find love, hope to have children and grandchildren, hope for our future. Hope will keep us grounded, yet moving forward.
